I'm onto my 2nd Discovery 5, both HSE LUX 3.0 SD6's. 1st one covered 40k miles with zero issues. 2nd one has just covered 1k with no issues. I test drove a few before choosing the exact spec, the 2.0 is ok but in my opinion doesn't suit the car. Likewise i wouldn't go lower than HSE spec. The earlier 3.0 TD6 is smooth and perfectly adequate but the SD6 with 700nm of torques is the engine to have. I've taken mine off road a number of times and its always amazed me how capable it is.
